1Introduction to Discipline

Hydrobiology is the science researching on the aquatic biodiversity and vital processes. Modern aquatic biology is not only a form of classification, retrieval and description to aquatic organisms, but is tending to study the law of life activities of all kinds of aquatic organisms themselves, and the roles in structures and functions of waters ecosystems. This major focuses on the aquatic biodiversity and resource utilization, physiology and developmental biology in aquatic animals, aquatic ecology and conservation biology, genetic breeding and marine biological technology. Hydrobiology has important theoretical and practical significance to understand the life phenomena and law of vital processes, scientific management, development and utilization of aquatic biological resources as well as saving endangered species and maintaining balance of the water ecosystem.
