1Introduction to Discipline

Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction is one important branch in animal science, is science for man 's need and providing theory basis of reasonable utilization, protection and development of the animal resources by application of the related theory and technology of classic genetics, modern genetics and breeding to modified animals.

Aquatic animal genetics, breeding and reproduction mainly researches on  genetic rules and regulatory mechanism of important economic characters in aquatic animals(such as size, color, growth speed, fertility, disease resistance, etc.), through artificial purposeful hybridization, selection, chromosomes operation, sex control, nucleus transference and transgenic technology to remake the genetic structure of aquatic animals, transform the phenotypic traits of the aquatic animals and improve the performance of their economic characters, so people cultivate new ornamental varieties or varieties for production.
