1Introduction to Discipline

As interdisciplinary of oceanography, aquatic biology and aquaculture, the main objective of this discipline is to study physiology and ecology, reproduction and developmental biology, and the basic theory of artificial breeding and cultivation of marine organism; To research on protection of marine biodiversity including genetic diversity, species diversity and ecosystem diversity. For some important marine organisms (including edible, medicinal, ornamental and organisms protecting the ecological balance), systemic research will be done from the geographical distribution, population fluctuation, genetic variation, germplasm resources, physiological ecology, reproduction development and artificial breeding. Main research direction of this subject include: Marine biology and physiology, ecology and biodiversity conservation; Marine biological reproduction, developmental biology, culture and multiplication; Marine biotechnology.
